Escape To...Penally Abbey Hotel
This month, we’re heading to the charming Penally Abbey Hotel, tucked away in the stunning Pembrokeshire countryside. A family-run gem with a relaxed, homely atmosphere, Penally Abbey offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Set within five acres of lush gardens and woodlands, guests can enjoy everything from cosy fireside evenings to breezy coastal walks. It’s the ideal place to unwind and enjoy a slice of peaceful, countryside bliss.
Please can you give us a little overview of Penally Abbey Hotel, what you offer and what makes you different?
Penally Abbey is a cosy, intimate, family-run hotel in the truest sense. We always aim to welcome guests to a home away from home and see ourselves almost as a large B&B, rather than a formal hotel. The hotel itself is set in five acres of gardens and woodlands, with blankets of bluebells in the Spring and abundant veg patches in the Summer. The Abbey is a glorious Strawberry Gothic building tucked into the hillside overlooking Carmarthen Bay and the enchanting Caldey Island. We believe that the art of great hospitality is a warm welcome, delicious food, no uniforms, friendly people, comfy, squishy armchairs, roaring fires in winter and open doors and sunshine and sea breezes in the warmer months. There are no dress codes, formalities or fancy spas, it's just a relaxing space where guests can truly unwind.
Where are you located & what are some of the area highlights for guests?
The beautiful, iconic harbourside town of Tenby is just a 5-minute drive from the hotel. There are so many wonderful seaside treasures, cafes, shops, bakeries and restaurants to be found there, not to mention three beautiful beaches! If guests prefer to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the local town, they can walk directly from the hotel, through our peaceful little village, to Tenby South Beach and the coastal path. With over 50 beaches to explore in Pembrokeshire, there is something for everyone. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (just a 10-minute walk from our front door) boasts 186 miles of incredible coastline and walks.
What is your favourite thing on the menu at the moment?
The menu is ever changing and seasonal, but the new season Rhubarb and Ginger dessert is a hot favourite. We’re all also looking forward to Gower Salt Marsh spring lamb and wild garlic and Wye valley Asparagus arriving on the menu in the coming weeks.
What is your favourite Bramley product at Penally Abbey Hotel?
We all love the Hand wash and Hand Cream. Guests always comment on the Bubble Bath too!
Why have you chosen to work with Bramley?
The products are natural, sustainable and smell delicious! As a family run, wholly independent hotel, we love that Bramley is British, natural and independent too. Like us, they are based in the countryside surrounded by nature.
Are there any exciting plans in the pipeline for the coming months?
We are currently busy developing pathways in our woodland for dog walks, more incredible sea views and so that guests can enjoy the carpets of bluebells in May.
